چکیده

Although it has been assumed that the satyrine butterfly Palmaris gustavi (Staudinger, 1898) should be present in northern Chile, no reliable reports of its observation and capture have been provided. Here, we report the presence of P. gustavi in several localities of northern Chile stretching from the altiplanic regions of Putre to those of San Pedro de Atacama, 550 km to the south. We also report that this butterfly displays a strong phenotypic variability, ranging from dark forms with entirely dark brown upper wing surfaces to light forms with large silvery discal and marginal areas. Both forms were observed together in one population. Illustrations of the adult habitus and male genitalia are provided, as well as notes and illustrations of the habitat. We suggest that the closely related Palmaris penai (Hayward, 1967) may be conspecific with P. gustavi, or alternatively that the San Pedro de Atacama population observed by us represents P. penai and the diagnostic features of this species have to be reassessed.

Systematics, zoogeography and bionomics of high Andean pedaliodines, Part 3: Revisional notes on the generic status and a new subspecies of Pedaliodes puma (THIEME) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Satyrinae)

The generic status of Pedaliodes puma Thieme (Nymphalidae, Satyrinae), recently transferred to Panyapedaliodes FORSTER, is discussed and reinstated. The splitting of Pedaliodes by FORSTER (1964) into several smaller genera based solely on adult morphology, the male genitalia and wing underside colour pattern in particular, is considered as not sufficiently justified. A new subspecies, P. puma e...

The Role of Presence /Absence of Palmaris Longus and Fifth Flexor Digitorum Superfiscialis Tendons in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Background & Aims: Etiologically the causing factor of carpal tunnel syndrome is not clear and multiple contributing factors such as the presence or absence of Palmaris longus tendon have been cited. The aim of the present study was to compare patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and healthy individuals in regard to the absence and presence of Palmaris longus and fifth flexor digitarum superfic...

Description of a new remarkable species of Lymanopoda WESTWOOD and identification of a centre of endemism of cloud forest butterflies in Belmira, northern Central Cordillera, Antioquia, Colombia (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Satyrinae)

A new species, Lymanopoda paisa n. sp., is described from the northern extremity of the Colombian Central Cordillera in Antioquia. It is closely related to L. ionius, as indicated by the male genitalia and underside colour pattern. However, L. paisa has an unusual upperside colour pattern with a large, light blue patch covering basal two-thirds of the wings. It is apparently endemic to the nort...
